Flu fears are already changing the face of some religious services, from Mexico where church gatherings are discouraged to the United States where wine shared from a common cup has been suspended in some parishes. We’ve already blogged about this but offer more detail from other places here.

As the World Health Organization warned that the swine flu outbreak may become a worldwide epidemic, religious leaders mobilized to try to keep worshippers safe. Catholic masses were canceled in Mexico City, where people prayed for an end to the crisis. Here in the US, churches in Texas and elsewhere encouraged sick parishioners to stay home

Comment: This seems to indicate that the church knows it has no power to protect its parishioners.
