GOP, BP and Why Obama actually caused the oil leak!
“I’m speaking totally for myself, I’m not speaking for the Republican party … but I’m ashamed of what happened in the White House yesterday,” said Joe Barton (R-TX), apologizing for the United States of America to a man who is personally responsible for nearly 3 millions barrels of oil contamination to our shores to date.
To begin with how does a person serving on a committee in the House of Representatives of the United States say in a public hearing he is speaking for himself with news cameras broadcasting what he says around the world.
I believe he was using the exposure to express his outrage that President Obama was elected President of the United States of America before the world. Why else would he tell Tony Hayward (BP CEO) that it was “a tragedy of the first proportion, that a private corporation can be subjected to what I would characterize as a shakedown, a $20 billion shakedown,” during opening statements before a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee.
It turns out that Barton’s personal excitement at the prospect of embarrassing President Obama in front of the world and win some Republican and Tea Party points by showing them how to hate in a sneaky way got him in trouble with the great whites in the pool. Minority House leader Boehner and company quickly jumped on him for being so public about what they were all discussing privately.
But impetuous behavior among relatively simple minded people close to power and money who are trying to stand out from the crowd is hard to keep in the jar. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) said Thursday that he had “serious questions about the setup fund,” referring to the $20 billion escrow fund. Rep (GA) Tom Price who is chairman of a conservative House group also described the fund as a shakedown Wednesday. And of course the other school children in the little house on the prairie were moved to add their wisdom.
Dick Armey trying to maintain his apparent leadership within the Tea Party movement reportedly stated that the Constitution does not allow what Obama is trying to do. The beautiful and talented Michele Bachmann (R-MN), reportedly told the Heritage Foundation Tuesday that the fund was a “redistribution-of-wealth fund.”
In addition to these predictable like minded conservatives, there were those who defended Barton (you heard right)… The Heritage Foundation which clings to the hate doctrines of the likes of John Calhoun said on their website that Barton is right…there was a shakedown! And then they went on to enhance their ignorance by saying BP is not the victim of Obama’s evil, the real victim is the rule of law. Of course the National Review also got energized now that Buckley is no longer there. They pretty much agreed with what everybody and anybody in the party of ‘no’ had to say. But these are patriotic citizens. Do you agree?
